Health, Safety And Environment
Engro aspires to be industry-first in following global standards set out in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) management. A dedicated panel of professionals at company level ensures health and safety of employees, using proven expertise, tools and training methods. HSE performance parameters and programs are annually reviewed at board level. Our HSE management systems and processes are continually being improved to meet international best practices including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Dupont Workplace Safety Standards. Engro regularly assesses and mitigates its operations’ environmental impact and upholds safety in all its operations and products, beyond our own walls into communities we work in. We abide by all local environmental laws and regulations including National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS). Our environmental and HSE systems and processes are regularly assessed internally and independently by third parties.
Life at Daharki
Daharki is a small town in Pakistan’s Sind Province, approximately 100 km from the city of Sukkur. The town is home to Engro Fertilizers Limited, which is the Company’s first, and till date largest investment in Pakistan. The fertilizers plant has just completed an expansion project, making Engro Fertilizers Daharki, the largest urea production plant in the world!
Engro employs 700 personnel at the site and stations them and their families in purpose-built residential complexes. Engro Fertilizers’ residential area includes state-of-the-art apartment complexes and housing schemes complete with all modern amenities and facilities. Employees and their families have a community school, state-of-the-art hospital, and a modern clubhouse with quality sports facilities to cater to their educational, health and recreational needs. Cafes, stores and mosques are all a part of the complex, and cultural activities and sports festivals are regularly held at Engro Daharki.
The complex is interconnected by a grid of metal roads, and N-5 and N-65 highways provide a link to the rest of the country. The Complex also has an airbase built into it. All cellular networks, telephone networks and high speed Internet access are available at Daharki. Safety and security is also serious business at Engro Fertilizers, and all parameters are secured using latest technology, security staff and mechanical barriers.
